Good Afternoon!
I was in my German class when I noticed that my friend David was not his usual happy self. The conversation that followed went a little like this.
Me: What's wrong David?
David: My girlfriend Brooke is mad at me and I don't know why!
At this point I turned into my professional girl mode. There was a perfectly logical reason that Brooke was mad and it was my job to discover what that reason was.
Me: What happened before you knew she was mad at you?
David: Well, I was going to take her out to lunch and as we were walking to my car her brother came up to us and said, "Brooke can I come?" She said to ask me to which I said sure. I mean, come on, I don't want to get on bad terms with her brother. That is a big mistake. Then she goes, "Never mind, I'm not that hungry anyway. I'll see you later David." And then she leaves in a huff and . . .yeah.
Ok I felt bad for the guy but it was just too easy to know what was upsetting Brooke.
Me: When she said "Go ask David" did she give you a look?
David(voice turning from normal to hysterical): What do you mean a look. I mean she looked at me, but I don't know what kind of look. What are you talking about??
Me: Did she say "Go ask David" with a shrug or "Go ask David"?
David: The second one.
Me: (sigh). Clearly she wanted you to say no. This was a time that you two were going to have together, obviously not something she wanted her brother to tag along to.
David: (he put his head in his hands and groaned.) Why can't she just tell me? Why are girls so complicated?
Me: Stop mopping, we need to get Brooke to like you again. Have you texted her?
David: Like a million times.
Me: Give me your phone. (He handed it to me and I texted a message to her, something I knew she would want to read; it was just pleading with Brooke to forgive David and how sorry he was. I passed it to David to make sure that everything was written the way he would write it.)
David: (reading the text) I really screwed up didn't I?
Me: You just made a mistake, what is important is that you can learn from it and fix it.
Me: Send this to her and let's see what happens. You were going to take her to lunch today? Take her out to dinner tonight or lunch tomorrow. And you buy her flowers. Do something a little extra special.
David: What do I do when this happens again?
Me: It depends on the look, but if she gives The Look again, just say "No" to her brother with a wink and all will be just fine.
That is my story. Maybe I should start a "Reading Girl's for Dummies" blog. It could be interactive and everything!! Wow, that would be a good idea!
Well, to end the story, David and Brooke are happy again, and every time David sees me, he gives me a big thumbs up and says "Thanks Bex!"
Boys: Good luck with the ladies.
Ladies: Give the good guys a break. They really are clueless. :)
Have a great day!!
Bex
